On June 5, 2024, lysozyme crystals were photographed on the International Space Station. Lysozyme is a vital protein present in bodily fluids like tears, saliva, and milk, playing a crucial role in innate immunity against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Redwire’s PIL-BOX was used to grow these crystals as part of a study to investigate how microgravity affects the production of different types of crystals.
