Breaking News: Meet Regina Senegal, Acting Chief of Johnson’s Quality and Flight Equipment Division


Regina Senegal is the acting chief of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, overseeing the Quality and Flight Equipment Division within the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate. In her role, Senegal collaborates with various organizations to ensure safety and quality across programs like Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System, and Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility.

Her responsibilities include managing safety and quality teams for about 13 customers, implementing agency and program requirements, and monitoring Johnson’s Quality Management System. Teams within her division work on different levels, from writing program requirements to ensuring that hardware and software meet safety standards. One team focuses specifically on extravehicular activity operations to ensure the safety of crew members during spacewalks. Additionally, Senegal’s division handles calibration, safety, and quality for equipment at Johnson, as well as procurement quality and facility testing. Senegal finds the diversity of tasks in her division to be rewarding and enjoys the challenges it brings.
