Preparations for Next Moonwalk Simulations Underway (and Underwater)

In response to recent flooding near Kerrville, Texas, NASA has deployed two aircraft to assist state and local authorities in ongoing recovery operations. The aircraft belong to NASA’s Disasters Response Coordination System, which has been activated to support emergency response efforts for the flooding and is collaborating with various entities like the Texas Division of Emergency Management and FEMA.

Due to persistent cloud cover hindering clear satellite imagery, NASA’s Airborne Science Program is conducting flights using high-altitude WB-57 aircraft equipped with the DyNAMITE sensor system. This technology provides high-resolution imagery critical for assessing damage and coordinating ground-based recovery efforts in the affected areas, speeding up emergency response times and aiding decision-making.
