The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with NASA, has selected the new Landsat Science Team to support the ongoing Earth observation mission from 2026 to 2030. This team, comprising experts from various sectors, aims to ensure that Landsat continues to provide valuable data for disaster response, agricultural management, water resources, land conservation, and national security.
The focus areas of the Landsat Science Team for the 2026-2030 term include maintaining data quality and mission continuity, improving data products, and enhancing the value of the Landsat archive. The team will conduct research on atmospheric correction and calibration methods, data processing pipelines, interoperability with international satellite systems, land-surface processes, water cycle and aquatic research, fire monitoring, and tools development for translating Landsat data into actionable products for various stakeholders.
