In preparation for the next moonwalk simulations, NASA’s Toxicology and Environmental Chemistry (TEC) group at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) is working diligently to ensure astronaut safety. This group consists of two main components: Toxicology support and the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory. Together, these scientists are responsible for maintaining clean air and water for the crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and other spacecraft. They establish safe limits for spacecraft environments, monitor air and water quality on current spacecraft, and support advancements in technology. Using in-flight monitoring and postflight sample analysis techniques, the TEC continuously assesses the quality of air and water from spaceflight missions.
