NASA’s Webb Detects Thick Atmosphere Around Broiling Lava World
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has detected a thick atmosphere surrounding a scorching hot lava planet located close to a distant star. The planet, known as K2-141b, has extreme conditions with rock vaporized in its atmosphere and hot lava flowing on its surface.
The telescope observed the planet using its infrared capabilities, revealing that half of K2-141b is constantly illuminated, leading to severe temperature differences and extreme weather conditions.
